Notes from a Prayer Warrior

“Sometimes I struggle with peace because I have not gone to war in prayer.”  I’m no real prayer warrior, I don’t have this prayer thing down to a perfect science. I know I can pray more frequently and fervently. I know prayer works but I don’t always work on my prayer life.  I acknowledge the importance and power of prayer. I try to get a prayer through, get a prayer in, pray for others, and spend more time in prayer. I know how to talk to God, tell Him all about it.  These things I know but I don’t always practice. I realize I can’t win the war if I don’t show up for battle or if I show up without my weapons. I need to stay in tune with God.  I’m meditating on the words to a song called What A Friend We Have In Jesus.  I have sung this song for most of my life in church so I am familiar with the words.  Prayer is how we communicate with God, through open and honest real talk with our Lord.  Peace comes from God and the songwriter reminds me in one of my favorite verses, “Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” Thank God, I don’t have to worry or struggle with peace when I’m knee-deep in prayer.  May His peace be with you today.

Scripture references:

Psalm 119:165-great peace have those who love your law, nothing can make them stumble

Numbers 6:26-the Lord lift up his countenance  upon you and give you peace

John 14:27-Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you.
