It’s the first month of the year and I am working on living with intention, purpose and hope. I desire to be a little more focused in January. They say how you start makes a difference.
Here’s how I’m choosing to live more intentionally on pitch.
But first, coffee. Now how many of us have the shirt, the mug, the thermos, the wall art sign or word art for the planner with this saying on it? What does that coffee do for the man or woman holding the cup? What does it do when the cup is too full? Coffee spills over the brim. When the cup is hot, coffee has to sit and wait. When the cup is cracked, coffee is wasted. When the cup is empty coffee gets poured in or out. Coffee is indeed an important part of people’s lives.
It’s a just a ritual for some and for others it’s a real connector. “I need my coffee to function”, I’ve heard people say while others say, “I need it to start my day”. It sets the tone for the day, the breaks taken throughout the day and/ or the mood a person can find themselves in.
What if we turned that saying around to focusing first on prayer?
But first, pray? It doesn’t sound the same perhaps or is as catchy of a phrase but I can promise you that it works. Prayer works better than coffee works to set the tone, boost your energy, or keep you feeling comfortable holding whatever cup life is giving you. Prayer can spill over into various areas of our life. Prayer can still be effective continuously working while we sit and wait. Prayer is never wasted.
So let’s keep first things first and establish a routine that connects us to God no matter the path or journey we’re on. Great things are already brewing. Who’s ready for a fresh cup of prayer? Now that’s what I call living on pitch.
