It’s Black History Month and my favorite thing this Friday and all month is celebrating family, Black history, music, culture and food. I’m reading books by authors who look like me, listening to podcasts from people who look like me and learning to appreciate new things , I’m singing Lift Every Voice and Sing on Sundays at church, wearing my African apparel, eating some of mama’s good ole cornbread made in that cast iron skillet of course and embracing it all. I thank God for being there throughout our battles, struggles, and triumphs. There are generations of legacy, love, pain, struggle and freedom. It’s feels good to celebrate all the things make up our collective childhood, adulthood, brotherhood, sisterhood, motherhood, fatherhood, and neighborhoods. How are you celebrating Black History Month?
