There are so many distractions today from a social and political standpoint. I’m struggling over how much of a fight it is to just focus and stay focused. I constantly receive email and text messages from folks telling me something, advising and suggesting what to focus on and what to stay away from.
Information flows out freely, rapidly and is coming from many directions on a regular basis. There seems to be a new norm of overload. One day it’s a broadcast, the next day a podcast. We’re talking about everything from gas prices to the price of eggs all while watching our favorite TikTok influencer show us how to purchase all the things they use in their kitchen and how to do the latest line dance moves.
As I’m reading through some chapters and books of the Bible I noticed how Paul wrote so many letters to churches from prison. I wonder how he stayed so focused on the church, on his work to keep spreading the gospel, his offering words of encouragement and providing brief updates on his life in prison. I don’t see in his letters where he focused a lot on his situation and who would get him out of it. May we all learn a lesson from Paul’s commitment and dedication. I’m sharing a simple prayer that I recently said aloud and is my prayer today.
