Saved by the Bell

I spent a few hours the other day with my Sunday School teacher who is 80 years old. She was happy to see me and reminded me of how much time had passed since she last saw me.  We laughed and chatted about growing up and growing old.  She smiled as she told me the story of the bells.  Each one sitting carefully  on a glass shelf inside a lighted display cabinet that reached from the floor to almost ceiling  height.  There was one that was too big to go inside of the cabinet. It sat on the hardwood floor right next to it.  She told me it was a family heirloom and said it was used long ago as the school bell.  The story began with her telling me about first bell she ever received.  She described how this little bell was the one that got her collection of over 100 bells started.  It was a small red bell with two crab legs for the handle. It wasn’t anything  fancy and it sat about mid-way in on the second to the last shelf.   She told me how this bell was given to her by a little girl she taught in Sunday School. She proudly told me how I was that little girl.  She loved collecting the bells and made sure I knew that every time she told others the story behind the bells she mentioned the little girl who gave her that first bell.  I stood there in front of the cabinet thinking of how many other stories were sitting there on the shelves.  She was blessed by a bell and I was even more blessed by her stories told in Sunday School classes and right there in her dining room.  I was blessed to spend a little time with her, to hear her tell  the story of the bells and listen to her share wisdom.  I pray that joy bells will always ring in her honor. I am thankful God allowed me to be in her class growing up and I’m even more thankful to sit with her many years later still learning from her teaching and wisdom.

Open & Shut

Bible-Book-with-Folded-Pages-in-the-Shape-of-Love-Heart If I don’t open my heart when I open the Bible, what good am I?  It doesn’t do any good to open the Bible and keep my heart closed.

Prayer: Lord give me a clean heart that I may serve you.  Give me a heart of wisdom that I may learn your ways. Lord, open my eyes to see you, my ears to hear you and my heart to  love you more and more each day.  Amen

Meatless & Fruitless

14 WAYS TO WAKE UP WITH A FLAT BELLY TOMORROW | Eat This, Not That! | Take these steps today for visible results tomorrow | http://www.eatthis.com/14-ways-wake-up-with-zero-belly:

I am trying to  live a more healthier, balanced life these days.  Portion control, meal prep, exercise and changing eating habits are becoming part of my new normal routine .  I’ve noticed that many healthy eating habits and tips articles I’ve read suggest we eat more fruit and vegetables and cut out certain meat from our diet.  I agree we should all try to live healthy lifestyles and make good sensible choices with our nutrition, but when it comes to spiritual nutrition I can’t be meatless and fruitless.  I’ve asked the Lord for His help with my spiritual growth and daily living.  This does not happen by cutting out the meat and the ignoring the opportunities to bear good fruit.  I can only pray for wisdom to balance the two.

I wrote out a prayer for myself for meatless Mondays: Lord help me not to be meatless when it comes to reading and studying your Word. Help me to desire more than milk, to digest it fully and never lose sight of  being hungry for your Word.  Allow my appetite to be fully satisfied just to do Your will and live on pitch today. Lord help me to be fruitful instead of fruitless when it comes to being a hearer and doer of  your Word.  Amen

MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE

Music Break

Sometimes I need a break, not a coffee break but a music break.  Music is one way I relieve stress.  I get lost in songs and at times I get really caught up in lyrics. I’m in the studio between my ears.  I start to fade into a verse or chorus and slowly fade out of everyday tasks, troubles and time constraints.   It’s just me and the music as I listen intently for my cue to journey on to beautiful chords, progressions and sounds.  I may even drift away like sand but I am always paying close attention like a drummer who doesn’t miss a beat.  Each song takes me on a journey through a museum of  instruments, vocal arrangements, style and overall artistry.  I love taking music breaks.  Listening to music has always been soothing for my soul.   I thought I’d share a song I play sometimes  for stressful days and when I am in need of a break.  God is faithful and gospel artist Yolanda Adams reminds me every time she sings the song called Alwaysness.    It’s done so flawlessly.  I love her voice and this song.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.   Click on the YouTube link below and enjoy a little music break.
