DEVOTIONAL WRITINGS TWO WORDS

Balancing Act

Zero balance are two words that I love to hear when it comes to my credit card account.  It’s a great feeling to know I have some freedom, I owe nothing and my account is in good standing.   Zero balance is not necessarily  what I want to hear when it comes to my prayer life’s bank account.  No prayer, no power is what my former pastor used to say.  It’s hard to experience any spiritual growth without making deposits and balancing things out daily.   Some days you may feel you have lots of time and other days you don’t have as much, so we all have to make choices in our balancing acts. I am here to let you know, you can do it. You can keep an active lifestyle and maintain a healthy balance in prayer and devotion to God. Take five minutes today and make a deposit.

Thought: Today I choose to meditate and pray. I will be like a rock and just sit still.

Ecclesiastes 4:6 Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.

No Superheroes

4816c2f621d6efc5bdb3ab65255d9dca

Today I choose to remove my cape.   You know the one I’m talking about.  The Superwoman cape.  The rescue and relief cape that says you can do it all.  I have learned to be more aware of how to experience the joy of the Lord.  If I am to be joyful and  know that  God is the source of my strength, I can’t be weighted down trying to please and save everyone.   I declare today I am not a superhero and I choose to leave all things super to the One who is able to do the supernatural in my life, supersede in every situation , and supervise the daily decisions I must make.   Having a relationship with God gives me great joy. I can remove my superwoman cape and let go today. I won’t try to do it all, save it all, or know it all because God is able to handle it all. Now that’s what I call living on pitch.

Good Choice

image

Oops I did it again. I walked by the various booths  in the  expo hall where I saw lots of good things. I stopped at a table that had two shirts on them. One said good, the other said bad. I chose bad almost immediately, not just because they were out of my size in the good shirts but because that’s the message I chose to display to the world. While the purpose of the t-shirt giveaway was to promote a TV show, I had no real specific purpose for choosing the shirt that said bad.  I thought deeper about my choice. Was that really a good choice? I decided after receiving my free shirt that I needed to use this advertisement in a way that will honor God. I thought to myself “go on with yo bad self” and decided that promoting God’s goodness was a good choice and most definitely a better choice. God is always good and He loves and accepts me even when I choose bad over good.  From t-shirts to the everyday testing of my faith I am sending a message about the goodness of God. So today, I am wearing a shirt that says bad but feeling good all because of God’s amazing love and grace.

Psalm 86:5 (ESV) For you O Lord are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

Psalm 145:9 (ESV) The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

Which Way

image

I found myself saying we’re going to do this my way as I sat down to work on a project with friends.  My way was ok but it wasn’t the only way.   When I stopped to listen to others and look at the project in a different way it became clear that my way wasn’t exactly the right way.  I learned a good lesson that day.  I learned that whenever I say it’s my way or the highway, that it is never God’s way.   The Bible says love does not insist on its own way.   Which way have you been going?
