Weekend Word

LOP-AttheCrossWell it’s Friday, Good Friday in fact.  Spring break is here and we are preparing for Sunday church services, shopping and getting ready for our family brunch gathering.  We are ready to take lots of pictures and remember the good news of the gospel message.  Jesus died on the cross just for you and me.  We have victory in a Risen Savior.  That’s a good word for us all no matter how you choose to celebrate the Resurrection.

Happy Easter and keep living on pitch.

Ultimate Recipe

I love a good recipe.  Recently I watched a television cooking show, which I often do to unwind, and I found myself intrigued with the challenges faced by 4 chefs. They were all passionate about cooking and although they all had the same assignment, each one of them had a different way to do it. The instructions were given, they listened intently and then the clock started. They scurried around the kitchen from the pantry to their stations as they showed their love for cooking food and creating the best tasting dishes they could muster up. They were competing for a grand prize of $25,000. Judges sang praises about how the plating was and critiqued how the textures of the various items was satisfying or not. Whether they were winning or losing a round these chefs one by one showed how happy they were just to be in the competition and to cook for the world class celebrity chefs. I admired that. I wondered how often do I show God I’m just happy to be serving, be on his team and in His presence? How often do we get excited about the curve balls life throws at us? I’m pretty sure it’s not too often. When the expected ingredients of life get tossed in with the unexpected storms of life, we don’t always say God is going to make something good out of this. God is good and creating from scratch, revising menus and overcoming challenges are His specialty.  God is the Master of everything. There is no problem too big, no ingredient too unheard of to throw Him off course. With God we have the ultimate recipe to overcome any challenge. Thank God for that reality because with God’s help you can make it through each round.

Celebrating Life

One of my favorite hymns is What A Friend. When I heard about the passing of Aretha Franklin music began to play in my head of her greatest hits. I remembered hearing her voice on my dad’s 8-track. Precious Lord and What A friend were my favorites. My dad played that 8-track on many family road trips when I was a little girl. I know she sang RESPECT but I loved to hear her sing What A Friend mostly! She will definitely be missed and was a well known artist. I often wonder what song will I I be known for? I don’t sing regularly on a stage or travel the world in sold out concerts but I do have a voice. I can tell a story. Will the song of my life matter when I’m gone? I want to live for Christ and leave a legacy of notes about a loving God, a faithful friend, a forgiving Father, a blessed assurance and hope of salvation to all who accept and believe. Thank God for life songs and for the gift of life today. How do you celebrate life?

My Weekend Song

Today I’m sharing this YouTube lyric video from Aaron Shust. This song is one I heard at a Women’s Conference and it became a favorite quickly.  This is my song for the weekend.  What song are you singing this weekend?   Enjoy and have a safe Labor Day.

Sing Your Way

I love to sing and listen to good music. I can get lost pretty quick in a sweet melody that keeps me humming all day long. I can go from the shower to the car, from the car to the desk. I can sing of God's love and not even rest. From the desk to the gym, don't let it be an old hymn. I keep those in my heart for days I don't even want to start. Music is truly an amazing thing God created. Thank God we can sing our way through everyday. God gave us music, and He allows us to express creativity as we sing. No matter what your day looks like add a song to it. Encourage yourself in the car, in the shower, at your desk or as you walk down the street. Sing your way through today. Make it a concert, let your heart sing, your hands clap and your feet pat. God hears you and your voice stands out to Him.

Thought: Today, I choose to worship on purpose and give it my all.

Psalm 96:1
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth.

I Chronicles 16:23
Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim His salvation day after day.

Lost & Found

img_4723This was a busy weekend for me. It was busy and beautiful at the same time which sounds a little crazy to me.  I was surrounded by beautiful people and beautiful things all weekend long.  Over the weekend I discovered my love for music again.  I found myself lost in several songs, jamming to beats I heard before and some I had not heard.  I thank God for allowing me to take time to slow down and appreciate so many of the gifts all around me. Gifts of being loved and sharing God’s love, spending precious time with family, meeting new people, and watching beautiful waves crash against rocks.  There is so much beautiful music in my life and I must slow down to hear it, appreciate  it and love it.  Listening to music and singing, always lifts me so I lost the busy and found the beauty.  I discovered I must not get so busy I can’t sing a song or sing along.  My love for music  runs deep within my heart.  God’s beauty surrounds me, and I could sing of His love forever.  What song might you sing to encourage yourself in the Lord today or make someone’s day beautiful?

Music & Life

Here’s a little something that came to my mind recently while listening to this song called Smile by Jonathan McReynolds.  My thought was  “God is always thinking about you.”  It made me smile inside and out and I hope you keep smiling too because God is always thinking about you.  Take a listen and keep smiling.
