Change of Heart

Have you ever said these things? I want to take a vacation and go somewhere peaceful.  I want to learn new things and experience life more fully.  I want to buy a nice house and live comfortably.  I want to run my own business.  Maybe your desires are not all that tangible and physical, you just want more joy or more peace.  Maybe you desire to be satisfied on the inside versus what people can see on the outside.  I have many desires and my heart wants God to do so many things in my life.  It seems like my list of desires continues to grow like flowers in a garden.  I find myself praying long and short prayers of  “Lord fix this and that.  Lord do this and do that.”  I think I have the just ask part down to a science. but the just confess part is a whole different story.   I’ll confess that my desires are  self-centered mostly and it’s really hard to admit that.  How often do we say, but God knows my heart, as if our hearts can’t ever change.  I know God can change my heart as easy as He can change my situation.   So I don’t have to stop praying, I don’t  even  have to stop asking.  I must start confessing  as I learn to pray Lord forgive me more than I pray Lord give me.

Scripture: 1 John 1:9 (KJV) says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

DEVOTIONAL WRITINGS TWO WORDS

Balancing Act

Zero balance are two words that I love to hear when it comes to my credit card account.  It’s a great feeling to know I have some freedom, I owe nothing and my account is in good standing.   Zero balance is not necessarily  what I want to hear when it comes to my prayer life’s bank account.  No prayer, no power is what my former pastor used to say.  It’s hard to experience any spiritual growth without making deposits and balancing things out daily.   Some days you may feel you have lots of time and other days you don’t have as much, so we all have to make choices in our balancing acts. I am here to let you know, you can do it. You can keep an active lifestyle and maintain a healthy balance in prayer and devotion to God. Take five minutes today and make a deposit.

Thought: Today I choose to meditate and pray. I will be like a rock and just sit still.

Ecclesiastes 4:6 Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.

Security Blanket

IMG_4640[1]There’s nothing like a warm blanket when it’s cold outside.  There’s nothing like being covered and protected.  When I’m feeling insecure I must remember to take cover and ask God for protection.  When I surround my anxious thoughts, fears and doubts with honest prayer, God always wakes up that confidence in me that I often let go to sleep.  He restores my soul when I’m weak, He comforts and strengthens my heart with truth and promises of love that never fails.

My prayer for my insecurities is this: Lord, secure my mind, my thoughts and my life in your blanket of love.  Cover me and protect me from evil and fear.  You are a good God and I am totally secure in You, Amen.

Hebrews 13:6 So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper, I will not fear; what can man do to me?

Weekend Warrior

Program CD.JPGI had the opportunity to attend a Lifeway Women’s event this past weekend.  I traveled to hear Priscilla Shirer Live.  It was an incredible experience.  My cup is still running over.  What a joy it was to see so many women coming together for refreshment, encouragement and to hear from God.  There were 3,000 of us.  I went by myself, but found I was not alone when I arrived there.  God so designed it for me to bump into an old friend that I had not seen in over 8 years. I sat amongst other friends too, not strangers.  These were women of God.  I was in good company. It was good to fellowship with other women  who like me were also trying to live on pitch for God.   I was truly blessed by the music and worship team.  Singing is something I love to do, and the messages of hope Priscilla gave were packed with passion and power.  She invited us to lean in with her into God’s word and she invited us to laugh and cry.  She invited us to meet with God.   We were in the war room of Overlake Christian Church which was a beautiful sanctuary full of people worshipping God, declaring His great name, spending time before God in prayer.  I took this time away from everything and everyone and it was just what I needed.  I heard from God.  I have no fear of being alone because God is with me wherever I go.  I am refreshed, I am free and I am grateful for the lessons I learned on the dry seasons, the power of simple prayers, and the impact God makes on my life when I study His word and plan to obey it.  Well the weekend is over but this warrior is still on the battlefield.

Open & Shut

Bible-Book-with-Folded-Pages-in-the-Shape-of-Love-Heart If I don’t open my heart when I open the Bible, what good am I?  It doesn’t do any good to open the Bible and keep my heart closed.

Prayer: Lord give me a clean heart that I may serve you.  Give me a heart of wisdom that I may learn your ways. Lord, open my eyes to see you, my ears to hear you and my heart to  love you more and more each day.  Amen

Demo Tracks

2d350c3e0be955b7054c8b1041c43ea4I recently searched online for some demo or accompaniment tracks to add to my music library like the one shown in the picture above by Soulful Sounds.  My music library is full of CD’s by favorite artists.  I hold on to music that inspires me so I can listen to and sing the songs I love over and over.

Notes from a Prayer Warrior

“Sometimes I struggle with peace because I have not gone to war in prayer.”  I’m no real prayer warrior, I don’t have this prayer thing down to a perfect science.
