Work in Progress

I know it’s not all about me when it comes to God’s program or plan. God doesn’t need me to accomplish His plan and even though it’s not about me I still need to work on me.

Praying for wisdom to do better, change and grow for the glory of God.

Tone It Down

Warning: Sometimes the tone of frustration can lead to miscommunication.

Have you ever been so frustrated you don’t hear what someone is saying. Have you ever become tone deaf in communication with someone? It feels like the CD is scratched and you just can’t listen to it anymore. I have dealt with multiple challenges and communication issues for a few weeks and I am still learning whether I’m speaking a loving truth, or a hard truth I must be aware of my tone.

When I listen to music, if the tone is not right the whole song sounds off, it’s hard to listen and it becomes harsh to the ears. Sometimes we have to tone it down so everyone can hear. When we allow ourselves to hear how God speaks to us in scripture we find His tone always comforts when things are uncomfortable. We find encouragement when we are discouraged and peace in our storms.

Don’t Miss It

I just returned from a trip to the Holy Land.  I can now say I have walked in the footsteps of Jesus.  I saw places I’ve read about and heard about in the Bible for many years.  I’ve eaten bread and taken holy communion in a garden.  I learned a lot in a few short days but one thing I couldn’t grasp was how the gospel message is still foreign to some.  While in the Holy Land, I heard someone ask their tour guide about Jesus as we were standing in front of a beautiful church.  The tourist said aloud, “I don’t know this Jesus.” She said it as if she wasn’t sure who the tour guide was talking about.  The historical facts, the architecture designs and the stones were intriguing to us all, but her words hit me like a ton of bricks as I passed through a crowd to catch up to my group.  I silently prayed she would get to know Jesus personally, not just learn his name at a tour site.  That day I learned sometimes we can truly miss Jesus at home and abroad.  We can walk in his footsteps but not walk like Him.  We can eat bread and drink water but forget the source of it all.  I learned we must seek Him as the Bible says, no matter where we are.  Seek to know Him better, seek Him to find answers to questions. Keep seeking to  see how the Bible stories will come alive in our walk of faith.  This is my prayer as I strive to keep living on pitch and I pray the same for you.

John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. that whoever believes in Him should not perish have eternal life.

Surrendering Thoughts and Prayers

My thoughts have been going sort of like this, I’ll have multiple “Lord have mercies” in one day and a whole lot of “Lord help” the next. This week has been extremely tough and it’s not quite over. I had to stop and just ask God’s help. Have you ever had to do that? Just stop. Ask God. Help Lord. Our help will surely come. I am a witness to it. When things are off pitch in your life just stop and ask God for help. We must learn to obey the stop signs in life and sometimes it can be hard to recognize them. Crazy situations and conversations, chaos and short fuses are all stop signs for me. I’m learning to ask God for help. I am sharing a portion of my personal prayer this week. I am sure God will hear us when we reach out and surrender all.

Lord help me surrender to you when everything seems to be going wrong and it looks like nothing is working out. Help me surrender to you when life gets busy and there’s not enough time to do the important tasks. Help me surrender to you when things and people just don’t make sense. Help me surrender to you when trouble comes, when the news is not good, grief strikes and fear stops me in my tracks. Help me surrender to you when I don’t understand how I’m going to make it through another week or another day. Lord help. I am confident that You Lord are my help.

The next time things start spinning around out of control just stop and ask God for help. He’s sure to be a very present help in your time of need.

Pray First

I am learning to pray more through every situation. I know there is power in prayer. Talking to God helps when I don’t understand and it also helps when I totally get it. God gets it. If I just sit in silence God gets it, if I open my mouth and the words jumble all up or my mind starts to wander, God gets it. I can come to Him with thoughts and thanksgiving. He listens, He hears and He accepts me unconditionally. Why would I go anywhere else but to God in prayer?

Prayer: Dear Lord teach me to come to you before others. Teach me cast all my cares on you. Amen.

Feeling Burnt Out

When you’re experiencing burnout it does not mean you leave God out. Resting in God is better than wrestling against Him. Philippians 4 reminds us to stand firm in the Lord, rejoice in the Lord, don’t worry about anything, think and dwell on praiseworthy things, let God’s peace guard our hearts, and allow Him to strengthen us in all we do. If you’re feeling tired, burnt out and need to take a break on the job, at school, in ministry, or even on your own personal mission don’t leave God out because I’ve learned that’s when you’ll really feel the burn.

Prayer: Lord I am nothing without you. Give me strength to continue in Jesus name and for His sake. Amen

Master Plans

I’ve been doing a lot of planning lately. It takes work making out plans for your life. We make all type of plans. Plans for our career, education, meals, vacations, birthday parties, special events and even retirement. Sometimes our plans work and sometimes they don’t. Plans can fail, they don’t go as well as expected or we miss steps in the process. We say we have good intentions. Planning takes careful consideration and time to think things through. I know you might not believe it but God has a plan just for you. He’s a Master at planning. He’s is consistent in making plans for you and He lovingly reminds of us it in scripture. Creation was planned. Salvation was planned. Redemption of man, also planned. I’m so glad that God knows something about plans. His plans are always better than mine. His plans always succeed and His plans are perfect and complete. I’m learning to trust God no matter what my plans are. I’ve learned even when our plans don’t work out, God’s plan always does.

Prayer: Lord thank you for protecting, prospering and providing for me. Thank you for including me in your plans. Amen
