Resting Assured

psalm 3Do you talk to yourself in times of distress?  How do you tell your restless thoughts to quiet down? How do you tell your fears and worries to flee or your weeping eyes to cry no more? I recently had to talk to myself in a time of distress.  It was not easy to find rest in the middle of my distress but I kept searching for it and found it through scripture and prayer. I felt like David in Psalm 3 when he asked God to save him as he fled from Absalom.  I found enough assurance to rest  in God’s word. If you are in distress, know that you have a shield of protection, a lifter up of your head and a Comforter in God. Tell yourself to hold on, tell yourself God’s got this.  Tell yourself to go to sleep and rest assured because God is in control of every situation. Be encouraged and tell yourself I will not be afraid.

As David wrote in Psalm 3:5 (ESV), I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
